TikTok continues to have problems with the US

TikTok has been discussed for a while on the grounds that it poses a threat to US national security. Although the ban of the popular social media platform in the USA was on the agenda before, there was no concrete development. Now, US officials are taking this a step further.

In a letter addressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, US Senator Michael Bennet demanded that Apple and Google “immediately” remove TikTok from their app stores. Accordingly, Tiktok may be banned from the App Store and Play Store. It is emphasized that the company's large user base and aggressive data collection policy pushed the USA to this decision.

There have been previous applications in the country to restrict and ban TikTok. However, Bennet, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, became the first US law enforcement official to directly reach out to Apple and Google regarding the removal of TikTok.

TikTok, on the other hand, has been negotiating with the federal government, primarily the United States Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS), to continue the rollout of its app in the US for more than three years. TikTok has faced increasing scrutiny pressure since the Trump administration over concerns that the app could share US user data with the Chinese government.

It was recently revealed that TikTok employees accessed user data without permission and leaked this information. Acknowledging the incident, TikTok parent company ByteDance announced that it had fired four of its employees who understood it to be spying.

With the recent events, the future of TikTok has also become debatable. The response of Google and Apple to the US authorities is eagerly awaited. So what do you think about the removal of TikTok from the App Store and Play Store?
